Message Its lighter(or at least should).
Possibly = to C5
The potential of both engines are pretty great, but here is the thing, to make a fbody fast, you have to pretty much ruin the car IMO. I have been in lots of fast Fbodys with "true dual" exhaust. The car wasn't designed for it so they often just dump right before the axle (illegal and not healthy). The cams they also put on those cars to make big power make the car idle like poo as well. Most of my expirence is from the fbody LS1 scene, but I can tell you that I sold my Trans AM WS6 for the main reasons of the poor exhaust setup, and when those cars are modded for big power they lose whatever class they had (you just look like another hillbilly in an fbody with a big motor that seems to run like poo and is EXTREMELY LOUD). But modded Z32s can still be quiet, run (and idle) well, and make as much if not more power than an LS1. Go to LS1.com or LS1tech.com and see what kind of numbers most of modded cars are putting down (almost everyone that mods fairly heavily ends up in the 400s and with only NA mods usually on the lower half of that). Now, just about EVERY person here with aftermarket turbos is in the 400s. Many can even achive 500 on pump gas and over 600 on race gas (without too much lag). Over 500 to the wheels is pretty rare on an LS1 (unless its sprayed -which many are). I'm not saying they are not cabable of much more its just that their is only so much you can do with NA. Turbo upgrades (that are woth anything-twin turbo with cast iron mani's) are extremely rare and the only good super charger doesn't fit under the stock C5 hood and won't fit period on the fbody. And still unless you do intenals with FI most are still only in the (upper) 400's. The point: going from a slicktop TT to a fbody is a downgrade IMO. Goting to a corvette its probably at best even. You have to make the call if the styling, interior, popularity, and depreciation of the C5 come into play in your decision. I have weighed all this out many times. And you can see after very carefull consideration I still drive a Z.
